Quoi de neuf sur f14tmodding en 2017 ? (version française).

Avant-propos : ceci est le premier article que j’écris en français. Pas le dernier, mais seuls certains articles seront traduits. Plutôt que de faire deux articles (ici c’est nécessaire vu la taille), les articles à venir seront simultanément dans les deux langues.

Bonjour tout le monde. Tout d’abord, laissez moi vous souhaiter une excellente année 2017 et vous donner des excuses concernant le manque d’articles sur mon site pendant les deux derniers mois. La raison de ce manque est que je suis en train de travailler sur un projet dans lequel je suis fort impliqué. Peut-être l’avez vous deviné, je travaille sur mon premier mod. Mais il n’y a pas que cela, c’est pourquoi je dois séparer cet article en deux parties.

1. Mon nouveau mod en cours.

Cela faisait longtemps que l’idée trottait dans ma tête. Pourquoi cela n’est-il public que maintenant ? Simplement parce que je ne sais toujours pas faire de modèle 3D, donc avant de commencer quoi que ce soit il me fallait trouver un partenaire capable de le faire. J’en ai évidemment trouvé un maintenant. Il est Belge comme moi, et passionné par le sport auto au niveau national également. Il est aussi travaillé dans plusieurs projets. Si vous n’avez pas trouvé ce qu’est mon projet, je vais vous le dire. Il s’agit du mod de l’European VW Fun Cup 2016. Pour ceux qui ne connaitraient pas, il s’agit d’une compétition européenne (Benelux et France) qui met aux prises des voitures de course abordables au style proche des anciennes VW Cox. Ces voitures peuvent participer tant à des courses sprints qu’à des courses d’endurance. En effet, la course la plus importante est une des plus longues et difficiles du monde. Je parle bien sûr des 25 Heures de Spa-Francorchamps.

Dans ce projet, je suis chargé de réaliser la majorité des skins et une partie des physiques. Mon partenaire et moi souhaiterions sortir ce mod avec au moins 20 skins, ce qui est tout de même beaucoup de travail. C’est pourquoi je n’ai pas eu beaucoup de temps pour communiquer récemment. De plus, j’ai dû apprendre à utiliser Photoshop, ce qui m’a fait perdre un peu de temps supplémentaire. Mais je pense que la qualité de mes skins a augmenté et ils sont plus précis. Si vos voulez de nouvelles images, voici le dernier skin en date. Il s’agit de la voiture 294 de l’équipe AC Motorsport 1. Elle a terminé troisième du championnat, avec cinq podiums. Cette voiture a été pilotée par différents pilotes, c’est-à-dire Martin Leburton, Stéphane Perrin, Simon Mirguet, Jonas De Kimpe, Mathieu Detry et Alix Fraiture.



2. Ma nouvelle piste en cours.

Durant le mois d’octobre, j’ai commencé à modéliser une nouvelle piste. Mais comme elle n’étais pas assez avancée, je ne voulais pas en parler. Mais maintenant, même si je n’ai pas fort avancé depuis lors, je me dis que je ne perds pas grand chose en en parlant. Cela pourrait être intéressant, car la piste possède plusieurs tracés : un circuit de vitesse, une piste de dragster, une de rallycross,…Mais pour le moment je ne suis pas sûr de la terminer car la piste n’accueille pas de course, ce qui limite quelque peu l’intérêt. Donc si vous avez une quelconque requête, s’il s’agit d’une piste qui accueille des compétitions, n’hésitez pas à demander.

What is new on f14tmodding in 2017 ? (English version).

Good evening everybody ! First, I’m wishing you a happy new year 2017, and I have to give you some excuses about the lack of posts during the last two months. The reason is that I am currently working on a very big project in which I am really involved. Maybe have you guessed it, I am working on my first mod. But other things are yet to come after that, so I will need to separate this speech in different parts.

1. My new mod in progress.

This idea has been in my head for a long time. Why does it just appear publicly  now ? Because I haven’t learned 3D modelling, so before beginning any kind of mod I had to find a partner that could make this. I have obviously find one now. This guy is Belgian like me, and passionated by our local motorsport too. He has already worked as a 3D modeller in several projects. If you haven’t already understand what is my project, I’m going to tell you. It is the 2016 European VW Fun Cup mod. If you don’t know that, it’s an european competition that is racing affordable race cars that look like the old VW Cox.Those cars are made for sprint races and for endurance races as well. Indeed, the most important race of the year is also one of the longest and toughest in the world. I am talking about the 25 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps.

In this project, I am making most of the skins and a part of the physics. My partner and me have planned to release the mod with 20 skins at least, which is a quite huge amount of work for me. That’s why I don’t have a lot of time to communicate. I had to learn Photoshop, so I “lost” a bit of time. But for me, all the skins I do now are much more precise and beautiful. You can see that in my previous post.

If you want new pics, I can present the last skin I made. It is the 294 car of the AC Motorsport 1 team. This car finished third in the overall standings with five podium finishes. The car was driven by many different drivers, that’s to say Martin Leburton, Stéphane Perrin, Simon Mirguet, Jonas De Kimpe, Mathieu Detry and Alix Fraiture.



2. My new track in progress.

During the month of October, I started to build a new track. But as it wasn’t far enough, I didn’t want to talk about it. But now, even if I haven’t worked on it since that, I think I am not loosing anything if I just tell you that. It could be interesting, because the track as many layouts : a speed course, a drag strip, a rallycross track,…At the moment, I am not sure I will finish it because it doesn’t host any race.So if you have any request, if the track is used for any race, feel free to ask.


That was all I had to say about my future in modding. I hope that all those projects will make me better. Please continue to follow and support me the same way, I will never thank you enough for that. Keep following !

Circuit de Lignières V2.0 released !

Hello dear followers ! You probably did not expect it, but I just bring you today a major update of my latest track, the Circuit de Lignières. Indeed, I worked on it recently, and decided to add the karting layout as said in the first release post. The layout is not totally different, but a chicane is added and a bit of the track is shortened. But if you want to see some pics of this track version, look at those screenshots :


Another very important thing : this is not just the new layout that you need to add to the existing one. I also improved and solved many bugs of the first version, so you will need to delete the last version. Both are included in the archive file that you can download here :

Circuit de Lignières released !

Hello followers ! Today is obviously extremely important for me, as I’m offering you now my fourth track for rFactor. I already described the track in a previous post, so there’s no need to make it one more time. I tried to finish it as quickly as possible, but without forgetting any important object. I can say that I improved my skills a lot, especially for the modelling with Sketchup, and I’m quite happy with the result.

But I must warn you of some things :

  1. I had a big trouble with the racing line, giving the AI a very bad trajectory. It is now solved, but the AI may just be a bit slow. I will not kill myself on this, as I don’t think it’s very useful to use it.
  2. I finally put cameras on the track, but I’m not absolutely sure of it they work well. I tested a lot, and there seems to be a little freeze with the sky while watching a replay. But it works.
  3. If you hit the “grass walls” at a very high speed, you will maybe fly over it. Don’t worry, it’s just like in real. Try not to go straight…
  4. You can already wait for an update, as I will add the kart layout, but I want to begin a new project before.

[W.I.P.] Circuit de Lignières – TCS

Hello guys, after a long long time without talking about it, I come back with the first preview of the track I’m modelling for the moment. I told you earlier that the Colmar-Berg track was impossible to finish, so I obviously started a new one. I wanted a short track, not a kart track, so I found this one. It is the training track of the TCS (the Switzerland touring club), located in Lignières. The track is not used for international races, but only for historical or motorcycle races. The Swiss karting championship also has a race on this track, so I could make  a shorter version, as the track is actually 1.280 kilometre long. The screenshots I will show you right after will give you a first idea of what it looks like :


Of course, as the screenshots are taken from the building software, you can’t see the sky and it looks quite unfinished. Here is a real photograph of the track :


Even if the  terrain is well advanced, I still need to place some bushes and grasses, but I will place all the objects once the terrain will not need any work. I will try to make a preview video of the track on my Youtube channel. I also saved the project many times, so there’s no risk to loose it. EDIT (15/07/2016) : lot of work made again. The terrain around the track is really almost finished, the details are in progress. After that, I’ll begin with the fences and the trees, all the objects that I don’t need to create by myself.


[IMPORTANT] rFactor Indy Lights skin : Tristan Vautier (Schmidt Peterson Motorsports) + a lot to talk about.

Hello ladies and gentlemen, I’m happy to write another post today, with some very important content. Indeed, I have a skin to present you, but I also want to talk about the future of my website in terms of skins, tracks, and maybe cars.

1. New skin : Tristan Vautier (SPM).

I begin with the skin I just finished today. It is obviously still one of the Indy Lights Champions’ skins, and after 2014 and 2013, it is logically Tristan Vautier’s livery, as he got crowned in 2012. He won the title with Schmidt Peterson Motorsports as a rookie (by the way congratulations to Alexander Rossi at the Indianapolis 500). After that, he raced in 2013 with the same team in Indycar Series, and returned for half a  year in 2015 with Dale Coyne Racing. The colours are this time more various, but with still so many sponsors, it was complicated for me again. The usual screenshots are right here :

The folder you will get in the file is the same as the one you had to create earlier for Karam’s skin, just paste it in the same location merge them if needed.

2. Skins in the next months.

After the presentation of my last skin, I want to talk about those that I’m going to make in the next few months. Obviously, I still have two Indy Lights skins to paint, the 2011 and 2010 Champions’ liveries. A little spoil, the first is American and the second is French… I will maybe (even certainly) make some others from Indycar stars that haven’t been crowned, but this will have to wait. Indeed, I have some other projects.

The first could be quite fast, as it is the reproduction of liveries coming from a local touring car championship, and just for one car in particular, as the others does not seem to exist in rFactor. I predict six skins for the moment.

After a touring car, I could also make a super touring car, that was racing until 2013 in a monotype championship. I think the seasons 2009, 2010 and 2012 are already made, so I can make some of 2011 and 2013, I still have to decide. I can also make a skin from the older car.

Another idea is a second monotype championship, raced mostly in Europe, with an important championship in Belgium and the Benelux. It was created in 1997, and has seen a lot of drivers, as it is cheap and quite performant. I do not say more, maybe have you recognized it. The main problem for the moment is that the existing mod for this car does not allow me to make correct skins.

I do not forget Richard Burns Rally, but I put it a bit behind me for the moment. I met a real driver, and promised him to try to do his own livery, I think I will do this at the end of June, if I still have enough time.

I could also make some GT skins, but I do not have any precise idea of what for the moment. Of course, if you have any request, do not hesitate to tell me, as some others did (it makes me remember I’ve got a F3000 skin to do).

3. Tracks (some Work In Progress).

I can say that I am more a painter than a track builder, but almost one year after the release of my first track, I still have some ideas and a little bit of time for it. But I am a bit confused, as I have not given any information about it for a long time. The bad news is that the “Goodyear Test Track Colmar-Berg” project (https://f14tmodding.wordpress.com/2016/03/07/w-i-p-goodyear-test-track-colmar-berg/) is unfortunately “dead”, as the software crashed and I couldn’t recover it. I forgot to tell you, and I’m sorry.

But what is better is that I began a new one, with much more care than before. I can already tell you that it’s not a kart track, even if a little one. I’m not that far in this project, so I will not say too much for the moment. When it will be interesting enough, do not worry I’ll post about it.

4. Various things

What could I say here ? I will obviously not make something different from modding here. I have already talked about skins and tracks, so you would have understood that it is time to talk about cars. I said in my very first post that I would probably never design cars for any game. But it may have changed.

I would prefer not to “loose” time on it, but if I can’t really find a car I appreciate (for exemple a better version of one mod I described higher), I could try to do it myself. I have all the softwares that I could need, I just have to try. The most difficult could be to find good blueprints without paying, as I’m not rich and I don’t wish to make you pay my stuff. I know the structure of rFactor quite well, and with a lot of readings, it could work. But of course, I won’t make it for the moment.

I am also thinking of changing the look of the website a little bit, what do you think ?

[W.I.P.] Goodyear Test Track (Colmar-Berg)

Hello everybody !!! I know it’s been a long time since I made my last post here, but I’m back now ! I have been working a lot on tracks and skins, but didn’t want to show anything before it was good enough. So, the first project I will present you is the Goodyear Test Track, located in Colmar-Berg, Luwembourg. As its name suggests it, it is used by the tyre manufacturer Goodyear to test their new products. But it is also sometimes used for racing. In 2016, it will host two quite important championships, that’s to say the TCR Benelux and the VW Fun Cup. The track is approximately 2.9 kilometers long in his short version (the one used for racing), and has a very long main straight as main feature. Here are some screenshots of what it looks like :
